Traveling the world as a family can be both exhilarating and challenging. Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to explore numerous countries, and we’ve come to appreciate the ones that offer ease and comfort for family travelers. Here, we’ll share our experiences and insights about four of the easiest countries to travel to: Thailand, Vietnam, Portugal, and Costa Rica.

Thailand

Thailand, the Land of Smiles, has been one of our favorite destinations for family travel. From the bustling streets of Bangkok to the serene beaches of Krabi, Thailand offers a diverse range of experiences that cater to all ages.

Ease of Travel:

  • Transportation:Getting around Thailand is a breeze with its extensive network of buses, trains, and low-cost airlines. We found the Skytrain in Bangkok particularly convenient and child-friendly.
  • Accommodation:Thailand boasts a wide range of accommodation options, from luxurious resorts to budget-friendly hostels. We stayed in family-run guesthouses that offered a personal touch and made us feel at home.
  • Food:Thai cuisine is not only delicious but also affordable and readily available. Street food is a must-try, and we were able to find plenty of options that suited our children’s palates.

  • Exploring the vibrant markets and temples in Bangkok
  • Enjoying the clear waters and stunning landscapes of the Phi Phi Islands
  • Immersing ourselves in the rich culture of Chiang Mai
Vietnam

Vietnam offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and modern conveniences, making it an ideal destination for family travel. We were captivated by the country’s diverse landscapes, from the bustling cities to the tranquil countryside.

Ease of Travel:

  • Transportation:Vietnam’s transportation system is efficient and affordable. We often used Grab (the local version of Uber) for short trips and found it very convenient.
  • Accommodation:Vietnam offers a variety of accommodations that cater to families. We particularly enjoyed staying in homestays, which provided an authentic experience and allowed us to interact with local families.
  • Food:Vietnamese cuisine is flavorful and healthy. We loved the fresh spring rolls and pho, which were readily available and easy to find.

  • Exploring the historic streets of Hoi An
  • Visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City
Portugal

Portugal, with its beautiful coastlines, historic cities, and warm hospitality, is a fantastic destination for family travel. We found Portugal to be incredibly welcoming and easy to navigate, even with young children.

  • Transportation:Portugal has a reliable public transportation system, including trams, buses, and trains. We enjoyed taking scenic train rides along the coast.
  • Accommodation:The country offers a wide range of family-friendly accommodations. We particularly enjoyed staying in quaint bed-and-breakfasts and spacious apartments.
  • Food:Portuguese cuisine is diverse and delicious. We loved trying different pastries, like the famous Pastel de Nata, and seafood dishes that the whole family enjoyed.

  • Exploring the charming streets of Lisbon and riding the iconic trams
  • Relaxing on the beautiful beaches of the Algarve
  • Discovering the historic city of Porto and its famous wine cellars
Costa Rica

Costa Rica, with its lush rainforests, stunning beaches, and abundant wildlife, is a paradise for nature-loving families. Our adventure in Costa Rica was filled with exciting activities and unforgettable experiences.
Ease of Travel:
Transportation: While public transportation is available, we found renting a car to be the best option for exploring the country at our own pace.
Accommodation: Costa Rica offers a variety of eco-lodges, resorts, and vacation rentals that cater to families. We stayed in a mix of jungle lodges and beachfront villas.
Food: Costa Rican cuisine is simple yet delicious. We enjoyed dishes like gallo pinto and fresh tropical fruits, which were readily available and loved by our children.
